article imagePacquiao's Next Boxing Opponent Choice Down to Two

By Leo Reyes     Jun 20, 2009 in Sports
Manny Pacquiao's choice for his next fight is down to two as the Mayweather-Marquez fight is now in limbo. The two famous boxers were in contention as Pacquiao's next opponent but a problem arose when Mayweather suffered injury while in training.
With the recent injury of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and the inevitable postponement of Mayweather-Marquez fight originally scheduled for July 18, Manny Pacquaio’s choice for his boxing opponent for his last fight of the year has been trimmed down to two- Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto.
Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is bent on pushing a Pacquiao-Cotto match while Shane Mosley says a Pacquiao-Mosley match is what boxing fans want.
Earlier, Mosley proposed a survey on Philippine boxing fans by asking them who they really want for next Pacquiao match. He was of course referring to him and Miguel Cotto. A Fighthype survey shows a 58-42 result as of today in favor of Mosley. The survey question is: ‘Who should Manny Pacquiao fight next?’
Philstar.com reports:
“Bob Arum makes out, he clears all the money and Cotto will get his $4 to $6 million. This is a fight for Bob Arum, not a fight for the fans or for Pacquiao,” said Mosley, who feels he can give Pacquiao a “better fight” and “more money.”
“My point is, let’s make the best fights. What would make more money than Pacquiao and I? Cotto has a Puerto Rican audience in New York, that’s where it stops. I’m big everywhere. A fight with Pacquiao and I would be crazy,” added Mosley.
Bob Arum has declared earlier that it’s going to be Cotto for the next Pacquiao fight and the only two issues that will have to be settled are the weight and the fight purse.
Boxing fans from around the world seem to be favoring a Pacquiao-Mosley match but promoter Bob Arum seemed determined to seal a Pacquiao-Cotto fight to be held at the Madison Square Garden in New York on November 14, 2009.
