The theme, very simply: Equality, nothing more. That covers it not only for alternate lifestyle people, but all community members.
The finicky Central New York weather forecast is not so finicky for June 20, 2009, the day of this year’s Pride Celebration. The weatherman is calling for temperatures in the 80s. Central New Yorkers know not to worry about the 40 per cent chance of rain; though terribly needed, rain may or may not happen and may last only a few minutes.
Participants are getting excited about this year’s Central New York (CNY) Pride Celebration as is evidenced by the tag on their web site, counting down the days … two days to go as of June 18. Adrea Jaehnig & Amit Taneja are this year’s Grand Marshals, and J.Son is slated to be Special Guest.
The event kicks off Saturday the 20th at 11 a.m. with the Rainbow Flag Raising at Syracuse’s City Hall, followed immediately by the CNY Pride Parade at 11:30. The CNY Pride Festival officially begins at high noon at the Everson Museum Plaza, Syracuse. The parade route begins at City Hall and travels west on Washington Street, south on Salina Street, South on Montgomery Street, and east on State Street, ending at the Everson Museum.
This year’s event premieres two new activities: The Pet Pooch Pride at 5:30 (bring your dog) and the Sunset T-Dance at 6:00, both at the Everson. Entertainment includes Nikki Fenmore & Friends, Whitney Peyton, and Square Pegs.
CNY Pride raffle prizes include an Apple iPod Touch, a weekend for two in Provincetown, season tickets to Rarely Done Productions, Alto Cinco gift certificates, Syracuse Stage tickets, and more.
Volunteers are still being solicited. CNY Pride encourages last-minute volunteers to arrive at the Everson Museum at 7 a.m. for instructions.
Jason Zeigler, a lifelong Syracuse resident, attended CNY Pride Celebrations in past years. He is looking forward to attending again this year. “I just can’t wait. I hear there will be new attractions this year. My partner and I haven’t missed one CNY Pride Celebration, ever.”
CNY Pride offers a complete list of Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transsexual (LGBT) events in Central New York. CNY Pride is accepting donations.
