Yomiuri daily, Japan's top-selling newspaper recently reported that North Korea might fire a long-range ballistic missile toward Hawaii in early July.
As reported by
GMANews.tv, the newspaper speculated the Taepodong-2 could fly over Japan and toward Hawaii.
Taepodong-2 is believed to be the missile that will be launch between July 4 and 8, moreover Taepodong-2 has a range of approximately 4,000 miles (6,500 kilometers).
South Korea's Defense Ministry and the National Intelligence Service said they could not confirm the report.
Similarly, Japanese Defense Ministry is still yet to comment on the said speculations.
Tensions over the Korean peninsula started since May 25 when North Korea conducted its second nuclear test on May 25 despite the repeated provocations of the international community.
On the other hand according US officials, North Korea has been preparing to fire a long-range missile capable of striking the western US.
However, Gen. James Cartwright, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said it would take at least three to five years for North Korea to pose a real threat to the US west coast.
Meanwhile, Russia and China joined forces to pressure North Korea to return international disarmament talks on its deceitful nuclear program.
According to past reports, North Korea keeps about 2,500 and 5,000 tons of chemical weapons that includes mustard gas, phosgene, blood agents and sarin.
