Singer-songwriter and widow of Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love, has announced that her next solo album, Nobody's Daughter, will be released under the name of the band she rose to stardom with - Hole.
In a video blog from Britain's National Music Express (NME), Courtney pointed to a poster in her studio where she has been working and announced: "That shouldn't say Courtney Love...that should say Hole, because it's a Hole record!".
Love goes on to mention that former Hole bassist, Melissa Auf der Maur (who also has a hotly-anticipated solo record due this year) will be joining her in the studio. She also states her desire to work with alternative string quartet Apocalyptica. Her inspiration for creating the new record has ranged from Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks record to David Bowie's more obscure release Diamond Dogs.
Auf der Maur aside, the new Hole guitarist has been announced as twenty-three year old English musician Micko Larkin, replacing founding guitarist Eric Erlandsen. Hole mentions several musicians that she has worked with that have heaped praise on Larkin, one even claiming that he was "the best guitarist [they'd] ever heard".
At this stage, it is not confirmed who will be playing drums for the new line-up of Hole. At the time of the band's demise in 2002, Samantha Moloney played drums on tour with the band. She has since performed with artists as diverse as Peaches and the Eagles of Death Metal.
Nobody's Daughter was set to be Love's first solo record since 2004's America's Sweetheart. The album flopped due to little promotion and Love's aggressive and violent drug-fueled behaviour, halting all tour opportunities.
With Nobody's Daughter now being billed as a Hole record, it will mark the band's first official release since their seminal 1998 album Celebrity Skin, with the hits Malibu and the title track.
The album is still set for release on July 20, 2009. No further information regarding singles or a tour have been released as of yet.
