Organizers of an upcoming folk festival to be held in Montana have announced that an amateur liar's contest will on the event list this year.
Butte Montana's annual National Folk Festival has a new event this year: a lying contest. The festival is a celebration of North America's unique cultural tradition. That tradition now includes the art of prevarication.
The tongue-in-cheek contest will join a series of other better known events at the festival, which takes place July 10-12, 2009. The festival originated in 1934 in St. Louis, and has become a venue for quirky Americana.
The "Liars Contest" will take place from 5:00-6:15 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 as the final event occurring on the Montana Traditions stage.
According to the Associated Press, organizers of the event have stated that it is strictly for amateurs and that "no lawyers, politicians, patent medicine salesmen or motivational speakers need apply."
