article imageNYC is preparing to trap and kill up to 2,000 Canadian Geese

By Kera Ellingson     Jun 12, 2009 in Environment
This summer, in an attempt to avoid collisions like the one that caused US Airways Airbus A320 to crash into the Hudson River in January, New York City is going to trap and kill up to 2,000 Canadian Geese.
Dozens of city properties within five miles of Kennedy and LaGuardia airports will have geese hunts.
Aviation officials have removed the bird flocks on airport property for years. This however, will be a major expansion into other parts of the city, including about forty public parks.
The hunt is being time with the geese's molting season so that they cannot fly away. It's scheduled to begin within a week.
