Teenager arrested for her father's murder

By Kera Ellingson     Jun 11, 2009 in Crime
Rebecca Rey Hart, 18, and her brother, Alex, 17, were arrested last Thursday for the murder of their father. Rebecca was formally charged with first-degree murder for the death of her father, Gilbert R. Hart, 50. Mr. Hart was a real estate investor.
Today in court, Rebecca said the plan to kill her father was first talked about two months ago between her, Alex and another teenage boy.
Clarksville police detective Tim Anderson said,
"During interviews we found that Mr. Hart may not have been the nicest person to members of his family."
One of Rebecca's classmates agreed with the detective.
Classmate Nichole Jones said,
"Her dad is one of the evilest men in her life. Every time she talked about him it was horrible. It wasn't anything good. I think that's what it was. He pushed her to the limit."
Anderson testified today that Rebecca told him Alex gave J.P. George, 15, money and a gun to kill their father two months ago. However, George couldn't follow through at the time.
Last week, the three tried again and were successful.
Anderson said,
"She said she first knew of the plan to kill their father on Monday, two days prior."
Anderson also said that Rebecca admitted to driving Alex and George to and from their house, where her father was home alone after midnight last Wednesday.
Anderson said in court,
"She said her dad told her she would never amount to anything and never go to college. She said, 'You are right,' and walked out."
Alex and George are being held in the Columbia Juvenile Detention Center while they wait for their detention hearing next Monday. It has yet to be determined if they will be tried as adults.
