article imageIsraeli woman throws away $1 million

By Jane Fazackarley     Jun 10, 2009 in World
A lady from Tel Aviv had to search garbage bins in Israel after trashing a mattress which was hiding $1 million. She had concealed her life savings in the mattress.
The woman, who is known as Anat, purchased a new mattress as a gift for her mum and she threw the old one out, reports the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.
Once her mother returned home she is said to have "almost fainted" because her life savings were concealed, very well it seems, inside the mattress.
The woman went to get the mattress back only to discover that it had already been taken to a local rubbish dump.
She rushed along to the dump where she found the mattress had been moved to a much bigger landfill area with another 3000 tonnes of garbage.
The lady searched one landfill site with no luck, so she went on to another site which is situated near to the Dead Sea.
The director of the site is said to have got some of his staff to help the lady in her search and to keep treasure hunters at bay. He described the lady as being "totally desperate' when she had got to the site.
She has yet to find the mattress and has said:
"People have to take everything in proportion and thank God for the good and the bad,"
Her mother has yet to say anything, publicly at least. It can only be presumed she isn't quite as philosophical as her daughter.
