Listed here are the world's top 10 boxers, pound-for-pound. These boxers have been active the past two years and made good in their individual boxing careers. Ranking is based on author's personal choice.
With the latest result of championship fights in different divisions, a new list of top boxers can be made without considering the weight factor in the ranking.
Here’s my list of the top professional boxers in the world today:
1. Manny Pacquiao

Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao is a Filipino professional boxer, part-time actor and recording artist.

Manny Pacquiao is the current pound-for-pound king and the world’s most popular boxer today. Pacquiao is due to receive the ‘Best Boxer of the Year’ award from the Boxing Writers Association of America this month. He is likewise included in the Forbes100 most popular and influential people in the world. The prestigious Ring Magazine has awarded him the best pound-for-pound boxer for 2009
Manny Pacquiao was born on December 17, 1978 in Kibawe, Bukidon in Mindanao, Philippines and currently resides in General Santos City. He is the current IBO and Ring Magazine World Light Welterweight Champion. His professional boxing record is 54 fights, winning 49 and losing three with two draws.
2. Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is an American professional boxer who retired with an unblemished record almost two years ago. He fought 39 times professionally winning all of them. He is the son of Floyd Mayweather, Sr., a former American professional boxer and now boxing coach and trainer.
Floyd, jr. has rejoined professional boxing and is scheduled to fight Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico on July 27, 2009. He was last year’s best pound-for-pound boxer by Ring Magazine. Mayweather is targeting Manny Pacquiao for his next fight should he win over Juan Manuel Marquez. A Pacquiao-Mayweather match is expected to be this year’s biggest boxing event. Mayweather was born on February 24, 1977 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The world’s best counter puncher from Mexico, Juan Manuel Marquez is the current WBA, WBO and IBO world lightweight champion. Marquez is scheduled to fight Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on July 27, 2009. He has a boxing record of 55 professional fights, winning 50 with 4 losses with one draw.
Juan Manuel Marquez was born in Mexico City on August 23, 1973. Marquez is also aiming for a shot at Pacquiao should he win over Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in their upcoming fight in Las Vegas, Nevada.
4. Sugar Shane Mosley

Shane Mosley is an American professional boxer. He is the current WBA Super welterweight champion. Mosley gained popularity when he fought Oscar de la Hoya in June 2000 and emerged as winner in a 12-round split decision. Shane Mosley was the undefeated lightweight champion before moving up to two divisions to face Oscar de la Hoya for his welterweight title.
Mosley was born in Lynwood, California on September 7, 1971. He was married to a Korean woman and has three children and another son with another woman. Mosley has a professional boxing record of 52 fights, winning 46 and losing 5 with one no contest.
5. Miguel Cotto

Miguel Cotto is the current WBO welterweight Champion. He is a professional Puerto Rican boxer. Cotto gained popularity in the boxing world when he defeated the then popular Shane Mosley in November 2997 at the Madison Square Garden via a unanimous decision. He was a ‘Boxer of the Year’ awardee by the World Boxing Association.
Cotto was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on October 29, 1980. He has a professional boxing record of 34 fights with only one loss.
6. Edwin Valero

Edwin Valero is the current WBC lightweight champion. Valero is a professional boxer from Venezuela. He is undefeated in his professional boxing career winning all his 25 fights. Valero’s boxing career was interrupted when he had a severe motorcycle accident in 2001. He had a fractured skull and had to undergo surgery to remove a blood clot. He was not allowed to fight in the US but last year the state of Texas gave him a clearance to fight. Valero defeated Antonio Pitalua via TKO last April to capture the WBC lightweight champion belt.
Valero was born in Bolero Alto, Venezuela on December 3, 1981.
7. Antonio Margarito

Antonio Margarito is Mexican-American boxer and a former World Boxing Association welterweight champion. He is also the former IBF and WBO welterweight champion. Margarito fought Shane Mosley last January 2009 at the Staples Center in California and lost the fight via a 9th round TKO. The fight became controversial when boxing authorities in California found a foreign substance inside his boxing gloves prompting the California Athletic commission to suspend his boxing license. Margarito became popular when he defeated and gave Miguel Cotto his only loss in his boxing career.
Matrgarito was born in Torrance, California on March 18, 1978. He has a total of 44 fights, winning 37 and a no contest decision.
8. Vic Darchinyan

Vic Darchinyan is a professional Armenian-Australian boxer. He is the current WBA, WBC and IBF super flyweight champion of the world. He only lost once in his professional boxing career.
Darchinyan was born in Vanadzor, Armenia on January 7, 1976. He has a professional boxing record of 34 fights, winning 32 and losing only once in his professional boxing career.
9. Michael Katsidis

Michael Katsidis is an Australian professional boxer of Greek descent. He is a former WBO interim lightweight champion and current WBO Asia-Pacific lightweight champion.
Katsidis has a total of 27 professional fights , winning 25 and losing twice. He was born on August 15, 1980 in Towoomba, Queensland, Australia
10. Ivan Calderon

Ivan Calderon is a professional boxer from Puerto Rico. He is the Ring Magazine’s light flyweight champion. Calderon is undefeated in his professional career.
The Puerto Rican boxer has a professional unblemished boxing record of 32 fights. Calderon was born in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico on January 27, 1975.
