The unaccounted-for amount of gold, silver and other precious metals at Canada's mint was revealed to be worth tens of millions of dollars.
Toronto Star reporter,
Bruce Campion-Smith, was able to confirm from insiders at the mint that the value of the "missing" precious metals is in the tens of millions.
Opposition parties say it's a lot of gold to be missing. The precious metals are stockpiled by the mint and used in coin production.
The Canadian mint also produces coins for 12 other countries.
The spokesperson for the Mint, Christine Aquino, is not swaying from the excuse provided earlier this month, saying that she is sure the missing metals are simply an error in record keeping. However, theft still has not been ruled out.
According to Campion-Smith at the
Toronto Star, employees at the mint believe it's only a matter of time before the police are brought in.
The review being conducted to find the error in records is due to be public information at the end of June.
