Navy Commander and Vandenberg hero, who is a husband and a father of three, is honored after being killed by a bomb in Iraq.
Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif,.—Hundreds gathered to honor the life of a warrior at the Perlee Theater, Camp San Luis Obispo, June 3.
According to public affairs officer Wesley Carter, a roadside bomb killed Navy Commander Duane Wolfe outside of Fallujah, Iraq on May 25.
Commander Wolfe’s eldest daughter, Carrie Wolfe-Smith, spoke during the memorial about a bowl and a spoon that she would find every morning in the kitchen sink after she woke up to go to school.
"Although the bowl will never be there again," she said, "There are still signs of him around. The life of my brother and sister and me are his legacy."
"Duane believed each person was worth defending," said Navy Capt. Douglas Alexander, detachment officer in charge, Port Hueneme Naval Base, Calif. "That's why he kept doing it."
Commander Wolfe was a husband and a father of three.
