The IBF/WBO heavyweight title fight between the Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko, the defending champion, and the Briton David Haye is called off.
Klitschko's management spokesman Klaus-Peter Dittrich officially announces the cancellation of the world heavyweight title fight between IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and the Briton David Haye due to an injury sustained by David Haye.
With over 40,000 tickets already sold, the Ukrainian Wladimir klitschko was scheduled to defend his titles at Bundesliga soccer club Schalke 04's stadium in front of an estimated 60,000 crowd against the Briton David Haye, a former undisputed cruiserweight champion, who joint pre-fight press conferences with a t-shirt depicting himself holding the heads of Wladimir Klitschko and his brother Vitali, the current WBC heavyweight champion.
Wladimir Klitschko will now take on an opponent to be named, as the event on June 20th at Schalke 04’s soccer stadium will still take place.
“We will do everything to realize this fight night. After having recovered from the first shock,
we will work on finding a top opponent”, confirmed Bernd Bönte, Managing Director of the
Klitschko Management Group.
