Chinese authorities ordered the mass killing of 20,000 dogs.
Since last March, eight people in Hanzhong city in Shaanxi province was reported to have been died due to the
viral neuroinvasive disease.
Associated Press reports,
"Rabies outbreaks and dog-killing campaigns are common in China, with more 2,000 people dying every year after being bitten by rabid dogs."
Still Hanzhong agricultural bureau head, Qin Mingxian was quoted saying that it wasn't clear that all the dogs killed were rabid.
Ye Zhoujun of the news department of the Hanzhong propaganda office also added that, "Some unregistered dogs were killed on the spot"
