Arrested on May 2 outside a ritzy hotel in Dubai, the British expatriate, working in the corporate entertainment industry, was charged on account of adultery. In her first interview from jail, she describes her horrifying prison experience.
Sally Antia, jailed in Dubai, on charges of adultery has, in her first interview since being arrested, said that her cell is like a "labour camp" where inmates are fed maggot-infested food. She added that she was sharing a malfunctioning toilet with 100 other women and being given food riddled with maggots, she said in the interview to the Daily Mail
She also shares her single bunk bed head-to-toe with another Russian woman and washes herself with water from a bucket.
She was quoted as saying, “Being here is like being in a labour camp. It is the other side of Dubai, the side they don't want you to see. It is obscenely crowded. The food, when you get it, has maggots in it. The lights are on all day and night and I have no one to talk to. I am confused, frightened and I feel totally abandoned."
Since the arrests, Mrs. Antia’s daughters aged 13 and 11 have been living with their father in the family's luxurious home in a waterfront development and because under Dubai law it is much easier for a ‘wronged' husband to win custody of a couple's children, it is being believed that the custody of her two daughters was the main motive of Mr. Antia, behind turning her wife in.
When asked how she tolerated her most frequent visitor in jail, her husband, she said, "What can I do? I want to stay in touch with my children and this is the only way. I am trying to put what he did behind me. He last came two weeks ago. He's my only link to my children. I pass messages to them through him. But I don't want them to come here at all.”
She was nabbed with her boyfriend, construction worker Mark Hawkins outside the posh Radisson Dubai Deira Creek hotel on May 2 after her husband reported their affair to the police.
