While pedophilia remains a problem in the world, many governments are beginning to crack down on it. In St. Petersburg the largest brothel for pedophiles and the city was recently closed down, ending a problem that had been going on for some time.
The owner of the brothel, pensioner Vadim Ilyukhanov, was known as Cobra and nicknamed that because of his bad eyesight for which he wore thick lenses in his glasses.
The brothel was found in the man's apartment in St. Petersburg, documentation show, the activity involving children as well as gay porn magazines, DVDs and sex toys. Ilyukhanov is is 62 years old and single. When the brothel was shut down it had guests that included Russian, Norwegian, Finnish, Austrian, and American pedophiles. Ilyukhanov would find boys 10 to 12 years of age in the marketplace nearby or at penitentiary institutions in Russia and other places. Two years before on Cobra's 60th birthday 25 children were said to participate in a major orgy. Although the pedophile was detained a number of times he couldn't be arrested until reports were filed against him which occurred on this occasion.
Pedophilia is a serious worldwide problem. A major operations ring was found when a 52-year-old Colorado Springs Colorado man named Kyle G. Speed was arrested in January of 2009. At the time he was working as a substitute teacher at Spring Creek Youth Services Center. He was arrested for trading child pornography and sexual exploitation of children which are Class III felonies. His operation was thought to be part of a major ring for pedophiles based in New Zealand. ABC news reported the New Zealand operation in 2008. What was unique about the New Zealand ring is the fact that the secret website used for sexual exploitation of children was administered by a 29-year-old Queensland public servant. The website used sophisticated computer encryption to help hide the identities of the pedophiles.
These recent crackdowns on pedophilia substantiates what has been found by television programs, newspaper articles and professional research that pedophilia crosses all countries, all incomes and all professional groups. This latest brothel closing in Russia is an example of government effort to stop the terrible abuse of children.
