Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary have been informed by San Diego that they are not allowed to have Bible studies in their home without a permit.
The Jones have been holding a weekly Bible study at their home. They were visited by a county official last week asking if the prayed, said "Amen" and "Praise the Lord" during those meetings. That question had a positive response. The couple were then informed that they were having a religious assembly and needed to apply for a "major use" permit.
That permit costs thousands of dollars.
One News Now reports:
"The government may not prohibit the free exercise of religion," says their attorney, Dean Broyles. "And I believe that our Founding Fathers would roll over in their graves if they saw that here in the year 2009 that a pastor and his wife are being told that they can't have a simple Bible study in their own home."
Broyles has sent a
demand letter to San Diego County.
The family is being targeted for having a Bible Study while other groups are allowed to gather at homes. There's something wrong when families are not allowed to have friends to their own homes for this type of activity.
One day it's a Bible Study, tomorrow could be a group having a party.
