Comics Legend Archie to Tie the Knot

The Globe and Mail is reporting that, in what will surely be a contentious decision for Archie Comics lovers, the creators of the publication have decided that Archie Andrews, the redheaded, freckled, Riverdale resident will marry Veronica Lodge.

Few details have emerged regarding the marriage, set to take place this summer. Fans of the popular comic had been speculating who Archie would marry after the publisher noted that he would tie the knot this past May, but would not reveal to whom. Many had hoped that Archie would wed the polite, next-door-neighbour sweetheart and blond Betty Cooper. Instead, Archie will marry the black-haired, wealthy vixen, Veronica. The Archie Comic book series, featuring a group of teenage friends including charactres Jughead Jones, Reggie Mantle, and Dilton Doiley, draws its history back to 1939. Since then readers have read and delighted in the escapades and adventures of the Riverdale high school students. A significant storyline throughout has been the consistent love-triangle between Betty, Veronica and Archie. The Globe and Mail reported: "Ardent Betty-backers are outraged, Veronica fans applaud the proposal. Some question the logistics of marriage for the historically flighty nice guy from Riverdale who can barely pay for his own gas." The story is set to be told in the pages of “Archie Marries Veronica Part 1: The Proposal" which will hit stores this August.
