Almost two months to go before the July 18th Mayweather-Marquez boxing match, boxing fans are now looking at a Pacquiao-Mayweather match which may happen only if Mayweather wins over Marquez.
The Mayweather-Marquez boxing match will not happen until July 18th. But this early, boxing fans and some sportswriters are already salivating on the Pacquiao-Mayweather match.
This situation is a bit unfair to Juan Manuel Marquez as he is now pictured as a loser of his July 18th engagement with Mayweather. Marquez is the underdog in the upcoming match which will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Boxing fans believe that a Pacquiao-Mayweather match can only happen if Mayweather wins over Marquez.
But Juan Manuel Marquez, the dynamite from Mexico is definitely capable of pulling an upset. It is true that Mayweather is the superior fighter if he is judged in terms of built but Marquez is a very effective counter puncher and given the opportunity for a clear shot at Mayweather, he is capable of knocking down the former pound-for-pound king.
Elpaso times reports:
Initially, Mayweather's size and speed seemed to be almost insurmountable obstacles for Marquez. However, the Mexico City native is well-versed in the science of combating quickness.
He twice battled speed demon pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao -- once to a draw and again in a razor-thin loss.
Size is another matter. Mayweather definitely is bigger.
However, he is not overwhelmingly bigger
Marquez has been salivating at a third encounter with Pacquiao. He still believes that Pacquiao lost on points in their last encounter though he was floored twice by the pound-for-pound king. And the best possible way to get back at Pacquiao is for him to score an upset with Mayweather.
The Elpaso report added:
Consider, Floyd Jr. started his career as a junior lightweight. Marquez, meanwhile, is a natural featherweight. That's only a four-pound difference in natural body frame
Throw in the fact that Floyd will have been idle for 19 months when he steps in the ring with Marquez, and you have to give "Dinamita" a solid shot at pulling the upset.
In the meantime, Manny Pacquiao is enjoying his boxing break by mixing politics with his boxing career. Yesterday he was reported to be in Thailand for a meeting with the Thai Prime Minister.
The world’s most popular boxer has admitted that he is indeed running for an elective post in next year’s national elections in his country.
Aside from boxing and politics, Pacquiao is also busy with his singing and acting career.
