Fresh from his recent victory against Ricky Hatton of England, popular boxer Manny Pacquaio is out to prove that politics and boxing do mix. Pacquiao is reported to have an audience with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vijjajiva today.
Famous Filipino boxer and aspiring politician Manny Pacquiao is traveling to Thailand today reportedly to fulfill a commercial engagement as presenter for San Miguel Beer.
Apart from his role as commercial model for one of the world’s best beers, Manny is scheduled to meet the young Prime Minister of Thailand, Abhisit Vijjajiva.
Manila Standard Today reports:
San Miguel Marketing (Thailand) announced that the Filipino boxer will definitely arrive in Thailand at 1 p.m. today for a press conference at the Intercontinental Hotel in Bangkok
In the meantime, Top Rank President Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter talks about the possibility of holding title fights in Manila and Las Vegas.
The idea is to stage two world title fights in Las Vegas and two title fights at the famed Araneta Coliseum on the same date with back-to-back telecasts
The Standard report added:
The change in the original plan to stage four world title fights in the home of the San Francisco Giants, where Manny Pacquiao was a big hit when he threw the ceremonial pitch prior to his fight with Ricky Hatton, was prompted by the non-availability of the AT&T Park, where an exhibition baseball game has been scheduled on the same date.
Under the Arum plan, International Boxing Federation flyweight champion Nonito Donaire, who earlier relinquished his International Boxing Organization 112-pound belt, would move up to challenge recently crowned World Boxing Organization super flyweight champion Jose Lopez (39-7-2, 32 KOs) of Puerto Rico, while IBF light flyweight champion Brian Viloria will defend his newly won title against an opponent still to be named
.
The other two boxers are Donnie Nietes to defend his crown against Manuel Vargas pf Mexico and Bernabe Concepcion against Steven Luevano
“The more I thought about it, I thought what a spectacular idea it was,” said Arum.
