article imageFacebook roll out Verified Apps, updates App Directory

By Brenton Currie     May 22, 2009 in Technology
Facebook has over the past few days rolled out key upgrades to its application area - the first major update for the directory since Facebook opened up their platform to developers.
The upgrade, which has been rolled out over the course of the past week, has seen a new look for the Application Directory which "help you discover the best and most reliable social applications." The directory now includes Facebook Connect websites, as well as mobile and desktop apps and of course the web platform apps.
Also being rolled out is the long awaited Facebook Verified Apps program. Developers have been paying almost $100 since Facebook first announced the program in which they review the app and make sure it meets all the Facebook criteria. Users will see a green tick alongside verified apps.
Facebook are also adding an 'Äpplications you might like' listing, which will show you your friends most recent interactions with a Facebook app. They have also announced a 'Featured Apps' section, something that many had complained about missing from the old app directory.
The redesign has been long overdue, seeings how the Application Directory has not seen an upgrade since the platform first launched back in 2007. Since then, hundreds of thousands of apps have been created, and the old system was simply too outdated.
