The experiment if done in a laboratory would have gone unnoticed, but when Danish consumer affairs reporter
Lisbeth Koelster poured three-tenth of an ounce of anti-dandruff shampoo into a fish tank containing 13 guppies in 2004, a veterinarian watching the show called the cops and reported her for animal cruelty.
A dozen of the guppies died three days after the broadcast.
The judge who reviewed the case said Koelster knew the fish would die because the experiment was based on a similar laboratory test, but he did not fine her, saying the matter wasn’t brought to court until last week, therefore she was deprived of her rights to a speedy trial.
