On Monday, May 18th, 2009, a ten year old girl in the Kansas City Missouri School District, reported a rape in an elementary school classroom.
Police were called to George Washington Carver Elementary school, in Kansas City, Missouri, where a ten year old girl reported a rape. This unfortunate story began as follows:
The teacher of the class, left the room, where an eleven year old boy,and the ten year old girl were sitting at desks. The police reports said the boy then locked the door, and pulled the little girl's pants down. The boy sexually assaulted the girl. When the girl told the teacher, the teacher told the girl to "stop tattling." The girl also reported it to a social worker.
According to The Pitch, the police report stated:
The alleged rape happened after a teacher left the students alone in his classroom. The male student allegedly locked the classroom door, took the girl into a corner, reached down the girl's pants and touched her vagina. Then he asked if he could put his penis in the girl's mouth. She said no and tried to leave the room, but the male student tried to wrap his arms around her. The girl fell over a chair, and the male student allegedly pulled down the girl's pants and raped her. The victim told her teacher, but he supposedly blew it off and told her to "stop tattling."
The girl came home from school crying. After she got home, she was taken to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, by her family. Authorities used a rape kit on the girl, and found bruises during the examination. Doctors found "vaginal bruising."
The school district reassigned the teacher, and the case remains under investigation.
Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault employee, Nicole Cristy, said the girl was very brave for what she did.
Stated Nicole Cristy,
"We always encourage them to keep telling. We always try to reinforce that with them. And tell them how proud we are that they've come forward and we know it's not an easy thing to do."
The girl's mother told parents:"Question your child after school every day, because if it happened to her it could happen to others." The mother also said of the daughter: "She hasn't been the same. She's just been sleeping,"
The school district reports that it takes every allegation quite seriously, and are investigating it further.
