Mario Kart Wii is currently being used as a tool to teach American children about the dangers of distracted and reckless driving.
In Vail Christian High School near Eagle in Colorado, Mario Kart Wii is used with it's motion sensor driving mechanism as a tool to educate America's soon to be young drivers on the rules of road edicate in what is called the 'Distracted and Drowsy Driving Project.'
The project was created with the help of the Eagle County Sheriff's Department, the Colorado State Patrol, Eagle County Fire Fighters and the Vail Valley Medical Center.
One of the program's students, 13-year-old Alli O-Brian mentions how distracting it was to talk or text on a mobile phone whilst trying to win a race on Mario Kart:
"I ran into a lot of things and it was very stressful,"
said O'Brian.
Currently twenty schools from around America are investing into similar projects to help recognize America's National Youth Traffic Safety Month, with the best school safety program being awarded $10,000.
