Chrysler's decision to terminate almost 800 of its US dealers brings home the real cost of decades of the lack of right-to-work legislation and union greed.
As reported earlier on
Digital Journal,
Chrysler wants to shutter 789 of its dealers across the country by early next month as part of its restructuring process.
Along with these closures comes the inevitable loss of jobs for not only the dealers but thousands of salespeople, body shop workers, mechanics and parts personnel.
Union greed, illustrated by incessant demands for more wages and benefits for less work, for job banks that paid people not to work, for prepaid legal fees and a myriad of other perks that most workers would never dream of has brought the North American automobile industry to its knees.
The sad part is that small business people and their families and the business' employees and their families are being ruined. These are the people you don't hear about. These are the people who aren't getting severance packages worth up to $50,000. These are the people living paycheck to paycheck.
Meanwhile, what of our union brothers and sisters? Well, I know in Canada, they have generously agreed to reduce------ reduce! ----- their wage and benefit packages to $45 per hour as part of their "sacrifice" in saving the companies.
If nothing else comes of this massive downturn in the economy, lets hope the legislators make sure that future generations are taught enough math to realize you can't buy a $300,000 home on a $30,000 wage and union's are stripped of their power to deny jobs to people who don't want to join their ranks.
