article imageAstrologers could win $50,000 USD in election challenge

By Bart B. Van Bockstaele     May 14, 2009 in Science
The Science and Rationalists' Association of India has issued a challenge to astrologers. If an astrologer correctly forecast the results of the 2009 parliamentary elections, he or she will be awarded $50,000 USD.
In order to win the challenge, an astrologer must correctly answer the following questions:
1. How many seats will be acquired by Congress, BJP, TMC, CPI(M), BSP, RJD, Samajbadi Party, DMK, AIDMK?
2. How much differences in votes will remain to win/lose for Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Lalkrishna Advani, Mamata Bandopadhyay, Laluprasad Yadav, Rambilas Paswan from their respective nearest opponents?
If an astrologer wins, the Science and Rationalists' Association of India (SRAI) will give her/him an amount of 25 lakhs Indian Rupees (about USD50,000.00). The Association will also shut down.
In order to qualify, astrologers must forecast the results on 14 or 15 May 2009. They must send their forecast by e-mail to the Association and to a press organisation.
According to the announcement, astrologers habitually announce after every election that they had correctly predicted the results. The SRAI has issued the challenge in order to stop such false propaganda.
