In a tragic and gruesome incident, a man accidentally cut his wife's neck with a chainsaw at their home in Ostego, Michigan.
Jerry Daniels was cutting a log when his wife Deb
approached him from behind. According to investigators, she most likely kneeled down in an attempt to help her husband roll the cut log away. Daniels pulled the saw from the log and it slashed her neck. The authorities have so far ruled out foul play.
David Labonte, their neighbour and deputy for the Allegan County Sheriff's Department was the first on scene.
"I heard a cry for help, so I came outside and at that time I saw what was going on, and I rendered as much aid as I possibly could," he said, adding that due to his position he was glad to have been involved in the response to the accident.
Despite the efforts of the two men, the 39 year old succumbed to her injuries.
Deb Daniels was Allegan County's human resource director, and her death has reverberated throughout the county government.
"Deb was clearly committed to working and living in the community she served," said Allegan County Administrator Rob Sarro in an e-mail to his employees.
"Deb's warm friendly personality touched those around her, and she will be sorely missed."
