Wal-Mart Canada is to build a 400,000-square-foot grocery distribution centre in Balzac, Alberta, just north of Calgary, at a cost of $115 million.
Wal-Mart describes the centre as one of the largest refrigerated buildings in Canada that’ll be a hub for fresh food distribution to its stores in Western Canada.
Construction of the warehouse will begin immediately by Stuart Olson Constructiors Inc. of Edmonton. It’s expected to employ 800 construction jobs, and then 600 jobs when fully operational in late 2010.
