Canada's top court heard that numerous confessions in the Reena Virk murder case proves the guilt of Kelly Ellard, according to prosecutors.
Strong proof contained in numerous confessions plus a number of eyewitnesses speaks to the fact that Reena Virk was killed by Kelly Ellard, according to B.C. prosecutor John Gordon. A companion of Ellard's, Warren Glowatski, is a witness for the Crown and has already been convicted for his part in the crime.
Gordon and others are arguing that a recently overturned verdict convicting Ellard of second-degree murder should be allowed to stand. The defense is arguing that jurors may have been mislead into thinking that the testimony of one witness was accurate without specific instructions from the judge to alert them of the possibility that it may have been untruthful.
After a series of court trials, convictions, hung juries and overturned verdicts, this appeal by the B. C. Crown seems to be the last chance for a conviction.
