Playboy standards may not be the benchmark of academic quotient. But they do know something about the fun quotient. Ranking by those standards, Playboy has brought out a Top10 list of the best party schools.
Playboy and academics don’t exactly gel. I am not counting the furtive reading of the magazine in between the Shakespeare tome. But in keeping with the times and trend of bringing out Top10 lists, Playboy too joins the parade. And in this year’s honor roll it’s the University of Miami which has taken the top spot as the nation’s top party school.
Colleges across United States were judged on their campus life, sports and sex. The ‘Bikini’ factor was a new one, ranking colleges using a combination of ratings of the weather at the school, its guy-to-girl ratio and its cheerleaders.
It’s not blondes who have all the fun as academics or ‘brains’ as Playboy says it, also came under the scanner. Also, according to Reuters, colleges were measured on grade point averages, freshman retention and Princeton academic reviews.
Colleges' bars and party scenes weren't considered as it was difficult to judge it case by case. Reuter quotes Playboy Assistant Editor Rocky Rakovic,
"In order to make the list, you had to be in a school where fun happens, so we threw that out and went to other criteria."
Playboy ranking of colleges began 20 years ago, but plans are to make this an annual feature.
The top 10 party schools are as follows:
1) University of Miami
2) University of Texas (Austin)
3) San Diego State University
4) University of Florida
5) University of Arizona
6) University of Wisconsin (Madison)
7) University of Georgia
8) Louisiana State University
9) University of Iowa
10) West Virginia University
I hope you aren’t wondering – where did my wonder years go?
