A car with suicide bombers entered the University of Peshawar on Friday but left without any harm to the institution when the ploice interrupted the vehicle.
Students and employees at the University of Peshawar experienced apprehension as the news of a car with suicide bombers spread across the campus on Friday, April 17, 2009. Friday prayer at the main mosque inside the campus, near the students’ hostels, had to be put off and security was tightened while the campus police ran a check for the potential bombers. The evening classes at some institutes had to be cancelled in order to save students and employees from any tragedy.
According to news sources, a rider squad of the campus police spotted a car with two suspicious young men, who were asked by the cops to pull over and come out of the vehicle. One of the guys in the car showed a suicide-bombing jacket to the cops and threatened him to let them go or he’ll blow the car on spot. Acting bravely, the policeman tried to drag the guy out of the car but he raced the car ahead, dragging the cop to some distance on the road.
To stop the car, a second policeman fired at it but the bombers escaped toward the Khyber College of Dentistry and rushed out of the campus gate along that route. The cops on duty reported to the SHO campus police, who acted at once and deployed security personnel at entrances, barriers, and along the roads. However, no report of the bombers came from any checkpoint and the police was later informed of a car, with bullet marks on it, spotted in Hayatabad.
