article imageSusan Boyle Receives Apology from Piers Morgan and Offer of Date

By Carol Forsloff     Apr 18, 2009 in Entertainment
Piers Morgan apologized to Susan Boyle. He told her that she deserved more respect than folks gave her. He acknowledged how special her talent really is.
Susan Boyle appeared on Larry King Live as she has on other shows this week, since she first landed on the world's consciousness in her appearance on Britain's Got Talent this last week. Piers Morgan was one of the judges who looked astonished when he heard Susan sing. He admitted to viewers on Larry King's show he had been one of those who hadn't believed initially that he would hear a voice so grand.
Morgan said, "I sort of feel like apologizing to Susan," he said. "I'm sorry, because we did not give you anything like the respect we should have done when you first came out."
He said the judges had been through a long day with "lots of terrible auditions."
"And then you came out and we thought you were going to be a bit of a joke act, to be honest with you," he said. "And then I can remember ... that second when you had begun to sing, and I had never heard a more surprising, extraordinary voice coming out of somebody so unexpected."
He too recognized that he had judged Susan Boyle primarily by her appearance at first and that he had been taken aback when he heard her sing. After talking about the events of the evening, when Boyle had made such an astonishing performance, Morgan asked her for a date. Boyle had told interviewers she had never been out on a date or been kissed. She consented to have a date with Morgan.
This past week has been filled with interesting events involving Boyle, who in a short time has risen to world stardom. Bowman said that Simon Cowell is already in California possibly making business deals surrounding Boyle's abilities. All duirng the interview, Boyle continued to smile broadly, maintaining the same decorum that viewers have seen all week on other television shows. She has made the rounds on the Today Show, Good Morning America, and is anticipated to be on the Oprah Winfrey show. Still despite her initial success, both Bowman and Boyle agreed that the winner of Britain's Got Talent isn't decided yet and that there are still performances and shows scheduled where she will be asked to demonstrate talent. Still Bowman maintained that it would take a very special entertainer to best Boyle.
No one seems to be tired of Boyle, as she continues to make the rounds of shows. In fact there were complaints about King's show that folks had to wait through meaningless chatter to get to the part of the show most anticipated. Boyle has made the world audience pay attention, it seems; and one wonders how the date with Morgan will turn out.
Last night's special interest was another selection from Susan Boyle's repertoire as she performed a portion of "My Heart Will Go On" for an appreciative television audience.
