There are continually more boys than girls being born in China which has resulted in a surplus of more than thirty-two million boys.
Each year there are 124 boys being born compared to each hundred girls. These are the findings of a study that was published in the
British Medical Journal on Friday.
China has been adopting the one-child policy for the past thirty years. Parents are only allowed to have one child in an attempt to combat the explosive growth of the population.
Many Chinese parents have an echo to establish during pregnancy whether the baby is a boy or a girl. If the unborn baby is a girl many Chinese parents opt for an abortion.
In 2005, more than 1.1 million ‘extra’ boys were born. In the Jiangxi and Henan provinces forty percent more boys than girls are born.
Only in Tibet and Xinjiang where the one-child policy is less strictly applied, is the situation normal.
In most countries for each hundred of girls, between 103 and 107 boys are born.
