Actress Demi Moore Uses Twitter to Save a Life

By Carol Forsloff     Apr 3, 2009 in Lifestyle
Demi Moore just revealed the value of Twitter. She used the posting website to alert authorities about someone who wrote material suggesting suicide. Moore may have saved a life by that act.
News reports declare that Moore did the right thing by taking responsibility. A woman from California sent her a message on the Twitter site stating she was proceeding to “getting a knife” and “going to cut my arm down.” When Moore read this she wrote about it on her Twitter page, posted it, and her followers followed up. The suicidal woman was taken in for evaluation.
In the meantime Moore thanked her supporters and friends on Twitter for their help. As she did this she said, “I am inspired by the enormous response of humanity here,” she wrote.

Twitter has been found to be important in other high profile events as well. Twitter has been used successfully in communication with Red Cross personnel and others in support of disaster victims and getting information where it needs to be, sometimes faster than government officials have been able to do.
Twitter is a social networking and micro-communication site that allow users to provide short bites of communication that give information across many channels. Experts declare it is easy to use and a valuable tool in a crisis, as has been demonstrated in these instances.
Demi Moore is an actress with many roles to her credit. The film Ghost is considered by many film connoisseurs to be a favorite. She starred in the film with Patrick Swayze, now ill and reported dying of pancreatic cancer, according to entertainment news.
Moore joins the ranks of others in the entertainment industry who have stepped beyond their roles to help others, like Sean Penn did with boats used to save victims of Hurricane Katrina and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have done by working with people to develop proper dwellings for storm victims. Wherever help comes, it appears, can be welcome.
