A deadly shooting took place around 10:30 this morning at a North Carolina nursing home. A gunman has been captured after killing at least eight people. The dead include seven patients and a nurse.
Sky News is reporting that eight people have been killed and at least five more have been injured at a shooting in North Carolina's Pinelake Health and Rehab nursing home. One of the injured is a policeman.
The police officer that was wounded was the first to arrive at the scene. He is said to be in good condition at Moore Regional Hospital.
The gunman has been taken into custody and is among the injured.
Pinelake Health is a facility for Alzheimer's patients. It has 90 beds. Family members are outside of the yellow taped building waiting for word about their loved ones.
Reuters reports:
"There are six (people) that have been confirmed dead and there are five others injured," an officer at the Moore County Sheriff's Office told Reuters, although he gave no more details and referred calls to the Carthage police.
The gunman is being reported to be a young male. The motive for the shooting is not known at this time.
Carthage Police have stated that they plan to hold a news conference at 5 p.m. tonight.
