A mysterious photo that experts claim has not been tampered with reveals the image of a figure in period costume peering out of a castle window. Is he or she or…it really there? Read on, but realize that answers remain in the mind of the beholder.
According to news sources, the image of a figure in period costume at a 14th century Scottish castle has “spooked” even some experts who make a living at investigating apparent photographs of ghosts. Taken in May of 2008, the photo appears to show a man or woman in a ruff peering out of a barred window at Tantallon Castle. To the naked eye (at least mine) it immediately seemed that it could be an old painting or tapestry thrust against the window, but what do I know?)
One very unsettling thing is certain. No mannequins or costumed guides are employed at the castle, and three photographic experts have confirmed that no digital trickery was used on the photo. One confirmed skeptic, Professor Richard Wiseman from the University of Hertfordshire, said:
“It is certainly very curious. We ran it by three photographic experts and they said it hadn't been Photoshopped at all. The figure appears to be in period costume, but we know 100% that Tantallon Castle is not the sort of place that has dummies or costumed guides. They just don't go in for that sort of thing.”
The ruined fortress dates back to the 14th century and is located near North Berwick on the Scottish eastern coast. Christopher Aitchison, who took the photo, said:
“I was not aware of anyone, or anything, being present in my picture, only noticing the anomaly when I got home.”
Well, after seeing that, who can ever go home again, Chris?
There’s not the ghost of a chance...
