Letters written by the world famous physicist Albert Einstein have been accessible by way of the Internet exhibition. The letters come from the period between 1919 and 1947.
The exhibition has been put together by the International Institute for Social History (IISG) in Amsterdam.
The exhibition concerns letters from the period between 1919 and 1947. The letters show that Einstein was very vocal in expressing his views about social issues, even before he rose to fame with his theory of relativity and won his Nobel Prize.
He never aligned himself with any political party as he feared losing his independent position. However, a spokesperson for the IISG said that ‘with the viewpoints he expressed he undoubtedly belonged to the left of the political spectrum.
The IISG does not have the Einstein archive in its possession. To the amazement of IISG staff the search through various collections yielded tens of letters and manifestos.
