The fourth Belgrade Design Week, annualy conference of creative industry of South-East Europe, will take place from May 26th to May 31th. This international meeting of creative and business world, helps to creative people to meet global leaders who change the world, and vice versa – turns on the attention of world public into creative spirit of „New Europe“, the one between Wien and Istanbul, which makes the region of almost 100 million people.
Everything started in 2005, as a private non-profit initiative, supported equally by domestic and international institutions, as well as by commercial sponsors and visitors who bought the tickets. Since then, this festival has been recognized, by the international media and experts (International Herald Tribune, London Design Festival, Monocle, Torino World Design Capital etc.), as one of 10 the most important creative events in the world.
- We put Belgrade on business and creative map of the world. That is very important! Second thing, we explained to the region and industry that this is the only platform for meeting of serious business and state administration with the most creative people in the region and the world. The third important thing is that we presented to our society that we deserve support to our work – says Jovan Jelovac, founder and chairman of Belgrade Design Week. – We already have 150 Serbian and worldwide media interested for the event. This year we have one important inovation, that is dizajnPark (designPark), a kind of design fair where people can meet each other and arrange some new projects and new job in this period of world financial crisis.
Activity of Belgrade Design Week is very important in the field of industrial and graphic design, architecture, branding, advertising, music, TV, art, film, fashion, media, digital media, publishing... BDW wants to provide Belgrade to fullfill its regional creative potential and meeting of creative people with business world can lead to that goal. There is a simple example of architect Daniel Liebeskind who came to Belgrade for his lecture in BDW, and finished the visit to the capital of Serbia with agreement about urbanistic project of Belgrade river banks.
