A horse and mule make a donkey. There's no turtle or owl in the mix. That's too bad. While the country needs a bit of speed to get things done, and the stubbornness of opinions that give strength, the turtles and owls must be part of the Democrat mix.
Turtles withdraw in their shells certainly, but the best feature of them is that they win the race in the long run. They take their time, look around, know what they're doing and then go right for the goal. Remember the race with the rabbit? I remember the turtle won. It won because the rabbit just took off, feeling cocky and sure it would win. The turtle planned ahead and got there first. The Democrats could use some of that.
We know all about owls and what they mean. Wisdom, we've learned, is their way. A pinch of owl on a plate of donkey could certainly make a good animal even better than it is, especially with turtle along.
Some wise, old heads would be useful now, but there's so much youth and change around I can't see enough gray hairs, feathers or shells to make a difference.
Democrats mean well, as do Republicans; for the most part I think. The problem is that the horse or the mule parts of the donkey get in control, and the poor animal doesn't know which direction to move. All the while it honks and whirls, never knowing who's holding the ropes. So there's Pelosi on the one hand and Reid on the other.
Now turtles don't figure genetically to create a whole different species, but wouldn't it be wonderful if they could? Mixed with an owl than a great political party might evolve. But if they want to join the donkey, that's mixed already, the result could be top of the line: wise, staunch, slow and deliberate and able to take off running at top speed with the right orientation from the rider.
As it is, poor donkey, gets sad sometimes. It tries to stay in the middle of the road while torn on both sides. It elicits the poor to ride, since it isn't the fleetest of creatures nor the most beautiful either, we know. But with a little help from its animal friends, and the applause when they arrive, they might make it after all. Those Democrats certainly need it, since the problems are certainly big.
One more thing. We will make things better and get to the goal if those donkeys invite the elephant off the three-legged stool and get them in the race while putting the turtle and owl on board.
