Balance is important. If you're too big, a bit too pompous, and pick the wrong position, you'll likely fall. That's what has happened to Republicans. They are unbalanced. Those who care are concerned.
The elephant in the room, all dressed up and looking good, might want to consider getting a different skirt. Right now the vision before us seems to be the overly-made up female all overstuffed and gray with a man in a gray-flannel suit, both sexes with pursed lips and angry eyes. That “tutu” means an outfit too short showing flaws on all sides.
The stool? The party platform, with inconsistencies that make people not know exactly where to sit for fear of it falling down.
Republicans continue to give criticism, not meaningful suggestions, even though our present problems need critical insight and carefully thought out ideas not diatribes that seem to take over. An opposition party that is part of the real party in the room (the one celebrating rather than the folks outside the door unwilling to come in) makes for balanced government. Good government needs that, which is why two parties make sense, or even three or four. France, for example, seems to have a field day during its elections. When we think of the French we don't think of unstable elephants but sly, lovely creatures that move fast on all fours. Don't you think?
Are there moderates left? I think so. Mitt Romney away from the pack, by himself, without being bashed about being Mormon at least knows how to balance a checkbook and speak logically without falling apart. That's my choice. Pair him with John McCain's daughter Meghan and you might have a reasonable look to talk about ideas and not just one that is the proverbial elephant in the room, improperly dressed, and ready to fall again sometime.
