article imageWestboro Baptist Church plans to protest Richardson's funeral

By Chris V. Thangham     Mar 22, 2009 in Entertainment
Liam Neeson and his family are planning to attend Natasha Richardson’s funeral today at Millbrook. In a move that's bound to attract criticism, the anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church say they will be also at the funeral to protest.
The notorious Westboro Baptist Church is at it again: They've announced plans to protest actress Natasha Richardson’s funeral. On their website, the group says nasty things about both Richardson and her family, and Millbrook residents are not happy:
The Church states: St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church - Natasha is in HELL! 15 North Avenue WHY are these really rich, really dreadfully talented, exceptionally privileged PERVERTS hiding the time of this dead tart's funeral? We shall picket outside on the sidewalk of this funeral location. Words will not hurt you, silly! We do, after all, put the "fun" in funeral...
Hence her avid support of AIDS research. There you have it, and that is what these disgusting perverts from DOOMED america, Cancerous Canada and Ultra-filthy UK are just going bonkers over. A dead simple slut who did not have enough sense to put on the helmet (it will muss my hair), then when she DID fall and hit her head, she was WAY TOO PROUD to get help (it might be embarrassing)! Shame on the whole lot of you.
Millbrook residents say the family deserves privacy while they are mourning her death.
Westboro Baptist Church is known for protesting funerals of famous people. They've protested in front of schools, colleges, churches, at soldiers' funerals and anywhere they say an individual has committed sins.
This time the church blamed Richardson for supporting research to find a cure for AIDS. Is that an offense? The church thinks so, and will be present at the funeral to protest.
Richardson and actor Liam Neeson moved to the small town 15 years ago and got married there. Residents want to support the family, so they want to make sure there is no chaos in the town.
They have put a “road closed” sign on the entrance to the road to the couple’s home.
Peter Devers, one of the residents, told the Poughkeepsie Journal:
One of the nice things about Millbrook is we are protective of our neighbors...I think it’s something Liam and Natasha liked about living here.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police said they are fully ready for the protests. Their only concern is focused on maintaining the traffic flow during the funeral.
Richardson, 45, died Wednesday at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan of a brain injury after she fell during a ski lesson in Mont Tremblant ski resort in Canada.
