Popular Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao announced that he has retracted his earlier announcement junking Solar Sports in favor of ABS-CBN TV network for the coverage of his forthcoming fight with Ricky Hatton of England on May 2, 2009
Finally popular Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao will be able to concentrate on his training for his scheduled fight with Ricky Hatton of England on May 2, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Yesterday, the pound-for pound king announced his retraction from his original announcement junking Solar sports in favor of giant network ABS-CBN for the coverage of his May 2 fight with Ricky Hatton of England.
Inquirer sports: ‘Pacquiao announced Saturday that he was honoring his previous deal with Solar sports to air his May 2 fight against Ricky Hatton on GMA-7 after ‘carefully studying’ and finding that his contract proved to be ‘valid and binding’
The retraction came after Pacquiao and his lawyer met with the executives of Solar Sports led by William Tieng. The Solar team flew to Los Angeles, California and met with the popular boxer in his apartment in Los Angeles which ended at 1:00 a.m.
After the meeting with the Solar executives, Pacquiao announced that he has decided to retract his earlier statement which effectively junked Solar Sports in favor of ABS-CBN for the TV coverage.
Pacquiao’s lawyer, Franklin Gacal, read the announcement in a prepared televised statement Saturday.
The retraction spared Pacquiao of messy court proceedings that Solar Sports and GMA-7 had intended to file in court for non-performance of contractual obligations. Solar Sports is a block timer of giant GMA-7 TV station.
It was rumored earlier that Manny Pacquiao is considering a slot in the Senate line-up for the 2010 elections in lieu of his original plan to run for a congressional seat in his home province. He would need a national media exposure if he decides to run for a national elected position and ABS-CBN will come in handy.
In a related development, Manny Pacquiao knocked down his sparring partner Art Hovhannesyan, a 27-year old Armenian undefeated boxer despite his head gear and face mask. This shows how Pacquiao seriously take his training in preparation of the big event on May 2, 2009 when he squares off with British boxer Ricky Hatton.
