It's been reported that four tourists, all from South Korea have died following an explosion in Yemen. The tourists were having their pictures taken in Shibam at the time.
With the tourists were two Yemenis who also died as a result of the explosion. Another three people have also been reported as injured. It is not yet known what was behind the explosion but Yemen has been known to have Islamist militants based there.
The website which belongs to the Yemen governing body are detailing the incident as terrorist activity. It has also been suggested from a different source that the explosion could have possible been caused by remains of dynamite which are used for mining.
There have been several attacks against western tourists in the past and Islamist militants have been fighting with members of the Yemini security forces in the last year or so.
In late 2008 an attack on the US embassy involving a car bomb killed 16 people. The same embassy was targeted twice within six months.
n February 2009 it was reported that 176 people who may have had links with al-Qaeda were released by the Yemenis provided that their behaviour was good.
