article imageCIA Report Predicts Israeli Collapse in 20 Years, Exodus to U.S.

By Michael Krebs     Mar 15, 2009 in World
Israel's collapse has been predicted numerous times by Arabic news sources - as well as those in the United States. Could "tough neighborhood" policies bring about this prediction in the next 20 years? The CIA may think so.
According to a report in the Iranian news source, Press TV, the CIA has issued a report that predicts the failure of the Israeli state in the next 20 years.
The Press TV piece quotes a CIA report that predicts "an inexorable movement away from a two-state to a one-state solution, as the most viable model based on democratic principles of full equality that sheds the looming specter of colonial Apartheid while allowing for the return of the 1947/1948 and 1967 refugees. The latter being the precondition for sustainable peace in the region."
Arabic news sources have supported similar predictions before. In June 2008, Arabicnews.com released a story that quoted the director of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs.
"The occupation of the West Bank is a cancer which is devouring Israel from the inside," said the director in the Arabicnews.com story.
But U.S. news sources have also contributed to the question. In 2006, The Huffington Post published a blog from Nathan Gardels that questioned whether or not Israel was entering the beginning of the end. The Gardel blog talks to the question of U.S. and Israeli "tough neighborhood" policies and wonders if those policies are blunderings.
Mr. Gardels quotes an analysis from Zbigniew Brzezinski, the former US national security
adviser, who links the Iraq and Israel conflict - saying, "Neocon prescriptions [of use of force to try to change things unilaterally] of which Israel has its equivalents, are fatal for America and ultimately for Israel. They will totally turn the overwhelming majority of the Middle East's population against the United States. The lessons of Iraq speak for themselves. Eventually, if neocon policies continue to be pursued, the United States will be expelled from the region and that will be the beginning of the end for Israel as well."
This brings us to the CIA assessment, which also predicts an exodus of Israelis to the U.S. Referencing again the Press TV report, "The study, which has been made available only to a certain number of individuals, further forecasts the return of all Palestinian refugees to the occupied territories, and the exodus of two million Israeli - who would move to the US in the next fifteen years."
While anti-Israeli regimes should not be quick to dance in the streets, a collapse in 20 years is a short time for those regimes to wait.
