Muntazer al-Zaidi caused quite a stir when he threw shoes at Bush during a press conference last year. The shoes missed both Bush and Nuri al-Maliki, Iraqi Prime Minister, who was standing next to him.
Al-Zaidi was immediately arrested.
Today, the Central Criminal Court in Baghdad sentenced Muntazer al-Zaidi to three-years in prison. He had previously pled not-guilty to the charges.
Al-Zaidi’s defense team contend that since Bush was not on official visit, the charges shouldn’t apply to him. But the Iraqi court didn’t agree and sentenced al-Zaidi to three years.
