A new worrying report concerning a shark attack in the southern seas has emerged from the French territory of New Caledonia.
A young holidaymaker from France has died after having his arm and part of his leg ripped off in a horrifying shark attack in the South Pacific ocean.
The nineteen year old student was swimming with some friends near a beach in the French territory of New Caledonia. The territory lies twelve hundred miles to the north east of Australia.
The student screamed for help and his friends dragged him onto a boat. They then tried to rush him to the shore but he died from a huge loss of blood before emergency workers would reach him.
This latest incident would confirm fears in Australia that sharks are more active during this summer season. This could possibly be due to the fact that they are following shoals of fish that are swimming closer to shorelines.
During the past four weeks three people have been attacked by sharks in the Sydney area.
There have been no fatalities but there were serious injuries; one man lost a leg and another his hand.
