A Nebraska kitten named Shadow was rescued from her owner Sunday. The man, 20, told police he was trying to 'calm' her because she had been hyper. The device he used to calm the kitten was a bong filled with and Shadow marijuana.
The suspect was caught smoking from a bong that contained the kitten inside. They had come to the Lancaster County home that 6-month-old Shadow lived at after receiving a call about a domestic disturbance.
The police resolved the dispute at the home of the young man and his grandfather. A few short minutes later the authorities returned when they discovered there was an arrest warrant out for the 20-year-old for suspect for possession of drug paraphernalia.
When the police re-entered the home they watched the man smoking marijuana though a piece of garden hose attached to a plastic glass box sealed with duct tape. Inside the box was Shadow.
The Associated Press reports:
"This cat was just dazed," Sgt. Andy Stebbing said. "She was on the front seat of the cop car, wrapped in a blanket, and never moved all the way to the humane society."
Shadow is now staying at the Capital Humane Society.
The man was taken to Lancaster County Jail on the arrest warrant. He now faces additional charges of misdemeanor animal cruelty and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia from Sunday. After paying a $400 the man was released.
If Shadow were to die or have any lung damage the man's animal cruelty charge could be raised to a felony.
