Feb 25, 2009 - Mr. Clooney Goes To Washington - 2 comments
Actor George Clooney met yesterday with U.S.President Obama and the two discussed the situation in Darfur and Clooney's recent visit to camps in Chad.
George Clooney is a well known American actor and is a United Nations Messenger of Peace. Clooney has recently toured to refugee camps in Chad and shared what he saw with the President.
Clooney was appearing on the Larry King Live show when he spoke about his presidential meeting.
Clooney apparently asked the president to appoint a full-time regional envoy who reports directly to the White House, and to ask China to set aside its business interests in the region and pressure Sudan to prevent atrocities.
Clooney was not interested in discussing the trip's possible dangers.
“I don’t think people should be going there and coming back and saying how it affected them,” Clooney told King via satellite from the White House lawn.
“I think somehow we should all know that these people are hanging on by the skin of their teeth.”
Clooney also delivered 250,000 postcards gathered by the Save Darfur organization to the president and Vice President Joe Biden. The actor said both were receptive.
