By John Auriada     Feb 20, 2009 in Internet
A man from England said he spotted the missing Atlantis using Google Earth. Google denied that Google Earth found Atlantis. The controversy continues.
Google is denying the allegations that its popular tool Google Earth had helped an engineer from England from accidentally spotted the missing Atlantis, the legendary island once located somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.
The location of Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean has certain appeal given the closely related names. Popular culture often places Atlantis there, perpetuating the original Platonic setting. Several hypotheses place the sunken island in northern Europe, including Sweden (by Olof Rudbeck in Atland, 1672–1702), or in the North Sea.- Wikipedia
I've tried using Google Earth and I was amazed how powerful this tool was -- you can zoom in and zoom out a particular map, you can switch from Terrain, Traffic, and Satellite view. The traffic view mode is really cool because you can check out some still photos by using street view, and you can even navigate from one street to another by just using your mouse or up and down keys. It's very much the same as Google Maps, but more powerful and includes plenty of features.
You can try and download the latest Google Earth 5.0
