Swat, in Pakistan, it seems has not seen much peace even though there was 'peace rally', today. As the reports suggest, a reporter from a leading Pakistani television channel was shot dead on Wednesday.
'Peace Rally' has not worked much wonder in the
Swat region of Pakistan. According to some latest reports, a journalist from a leading Pakistani television channel, the GEO tv, was shot dead on Wednesday. Incidentally, the murder took place in a day when a 'peace rally' was organized in the aim of convincing the Taliban leaders to use peaceful ways of negotiation while desisting the armed way. The reporter, Mr. Musa Khan, The News daily reporter, was shot by unknown gunmen in the Matta area of Swat. The area is known to be a stronghold of the local Taliban.
The reporter had gone to that area for covering negotiations between Taliban leaders and Maulana Sufi Mohammad. The Maulana had been the one who organized the 'peace rally' early today. The Maulana has also been instrumental in reaching an agreement with the North West Frontier Province government for enforcing Sharia law in Swat as well as some other parts of the province. In the 'peace rally', the Maulana led a procession to Matta and scheduled holding negotiations with Taliban leader Maulana Fazalullah.
The GEO tv, while announcing the news, stated that, "We announce the sad news that the Geo TV correspondent in Swat was assassinated by unidentified gunmen".
Till now, no group has claimed responsibility behind the incident. The reports from various sources indicated that this had been the second event where a journalist was shot dead in Swat valley in the short span of last three months.
