Dutch poodle-owner Loredana Romano was fast asleep when her beloved poodle Vale mistook her nose tip for a snack, bit it off and ran into the garden with it. She was in bed at the time. The police retrieved the proboscis and it was sewn on again.
Loredana, Italian born but now living in Amsterdam, was lucky: they actualy found her nose-tip and surgeons managed to sew the little sniffer back on again in the local hospital. She'll need some more plastic surgery to repair the scars.
Should have listened to her husband, she says
The Dutch daily Telegraaf newspaper reports from The Netherlands that Loredana had always been 'far too indulgent' with the perky white poodle, according to her husband. "I should have listened to my husband,' she now declares. "He's told me a thousand times that Vale shouldn't be allowed in the bedroom."
Vale now has been banned permanently from the inner sanctum and has been fitted with the cutest little pink nose strap so he's not going to be tempted to do the same thing again. It's not known why he was so confused. Amsterdam police have, very wisely, refrained from commenting.
Poodles are tough hunting dogs - not wimps, actually
The poodle isn't the wimp everybody now thinks he is. Originally, the breed was bred as a tough hunting dog: in Germany retrieving fowl from water. And that stylish 'poodle clip' was actually designed by hunters to help the dogs move through the water more efficiently. Even those patches of hair left on the body were meant to protect vital organs and joints susceptible to cold.
And even the smaller poodles had a full time job to earn cash for their owners: they sniffed out truffles and performed in circuses. new
